Mr. James R. Markham, Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Markham graduated from Wesleyan University in 1984 (M.A. in chemistry) and from the University of Hartford in 1981 (B.S. in chemistry).  Mr. Markham joined AFR in January 1983. Presently he is a research group manager (since 1992) and the CEO (since 1998). His experience includes 60 publications, three patents and numerous presentations. His research has been supported by contracts and grants from federal, state and private sector organizations with focus on innovative methods for measurements of temperature, radiative properties, process emissions and unstable combustion. He has demonstrated new measurement capabilities at turbine engine test cells, a high flux solar furnace, black liquor recovery boilers, a glass kiln, a coal-fired boiler, a chemical incinerator, and government labs and military bases. He has delivered new instruments to the Air Force, Army and private sector to satisfy important measurement needs. Mr. Markham has received two R&D 100 Awards (2008, 1994), an Air Force Technical Achievement Excellence Award (2004), and was recognized by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection for implementing energy efficient technology (2002). The International Society for Automation (ISA) presented him with the Major Charles Bassett III Outstanding Paper Award at the 48th International Instrumentation Symposium. Mr. Markham represented AFR at the U.S. SBA ceremony to receive their prestigious Tibbetts Award for commercialization of new technology (2000), and was an invited presenter at the DOD Joint Service/Industry SBIR Commercialization Pilot Program Technology Interchange (2012).
