AFR
conducts TG-FTIR analyses. The TG-FTIR instrument AFR uses consists of a thermogravimetric analyzer (TG)
for measuring weight loss coupled with a Fourier-Transform Infrared (FT-IR)
spectrometer for analysis of evolved gases. The TG-FTIR method was originally
developed at AFR for the study of low heating rate pyrolysis of coal. However,
it has also been used to characterize the pyrolysis and combustion behavior of a
wide variety of materials, including petroleum source rocks, plant biomass,
tires and other waste materials, polymers, lubricants, pharmaceuticals, and
composites. A commercial unit was developed for sale, which is known as the
Series 101 TG-Plus Analyzer. Applications include research & development,
and quality control/quality assurance.
